Melissa Turner
SENIOR INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER
My love affair with instructional design began in 2011 and I haven't looked back since! This journey has taken me from Adobe Captivate to Articulate 360, from eLearning development to designing instructor-led training, and everything in between. I am passionate about inspiring others to action, creating compelling learning experiences that connect the 'why' with the 'how,' and partnering with business leaders to drive company initiatives. l enjoy the challenge of breaking complex processes down into simple steps to help improve learning transfer and retention. To me, success is
creating a highly relevant learning experience, based on real world objectives, that improves performance.

In the gallery below, you'll find samples of different projects that I've developed over the years. Each sample includes a short description to provide a bit of context. Select a project title to preview.

This project focuses on a topic that many of us find challenging...having a difficult conversation with a colleague or loved one. The course includes a downloadable guide so the participant can work alongside the module, immediately apply what they learn, and walk away with a plan. It was developed in Articulate Rise and incorporates activities created in Storyline.
This is a sample scenario from a course on problem resolution. In this activity, learners are asked to watch a video and rate how well they think the person listened, empathized, and assessed the situation. The scenario was created in Articulate Storyline. The video was created by the company's in-house production team.
This is a single slide sample from a course on caring for clients living with Alzheimer's and other dementias. I'm using this example to demonstrate slide design in Articulate Storyline and the incorporation of video animations created in Vyond.

This is a sample from a course on caring for clients on hospice. The course provides guidance on identifying which care activities are in scope and which are out of scope. This is followed by a series of knowledge checks that incorporate real world scenarios that a care professional may face on the job.

NOTE: This is the knowledge check only. It is not the full course.
This is a short segment from a software tutorial created in Storyline. In 2019, the company began piloting and eventually deployed Salesforce to over 650 franchise offices. I worked closely with the product owner, the software development team, and early adopters to create videos, interactive web-based modules, instructor-led training, reference guides and job aids to support this massive initiative. There were many complexities and changes along the way. We had to adapt quickly and work at break-neck speed, but it was so rewarding!
This was a new method that I experimented with. I typically use Articulate Storyline for interactive software demos. For this project, I used Rise. I incorporated step-by-step instructions with video snippets demonstrating the process. Then the learner is instructed to perform the task in their operating system. Looking back, there are things I would have done differently (example: I would have slowed down video snippets and added a more distinct fade at the end of each video) but it was fun to experiment with a new approach!
